Weekly Link Roundup: 9 Links on Writing, Creativity and Good Business
Hello dear readers, and welcome to the weekly post o’ links. This week we’ve got some posts about maintaining focus, keeping up good client relationships, and tips on better interviewing. There’s a meditation on creativity, a proposal to view typos a bit differently, and a screed on perfectionism. There’s also a few more choice selections thrown in for good measure, all for your reading enjoyment.
Don’t forget that John over at Writer’s Resource Center is conducting a highly enjoyable March Madness for writing blogs. I’m looking forward to hearing his no-holds-barred take on Quiet Rebel Writer, which should take place this week. Check it out, and check out these links as well:
Falling Back in Love with That Project You Just Don’t Want to Do
Is there something wrong between you and The Project? Do you find yourself fantasizing about other projects when you’re supposed to be working on The Project? Does the thought of spending time with The Project make you want to fake a sudden, extreme headache and lie on the couch with a cool cloth over your eyes? When breaking up is not an option, here are four ways to fall back in love with The Project — or at least get it off your desk.
One of the best ways to run a good business as well as keep the clients which you currently have is to build a strong relationship with your clients…
As a Technical Writer, I have had to interview hundreds of computer professionals to better understand the technology that I would be documenting. Programmers, Quality Assurance, Implementation, Sales, Management, Customer Service, Training… I have interviewed them all! The following article reveals tips you can use to optimize your interview experience and get the information you seek.
What Does Creativity Mean to You?
What is creativity? It’s one of those deceptively simple questions. One of the best ways to use Twitter is to ask questions. Keeping with the cocktail party analogy, which would you prefer… someone who wants to learn things about you, or someone who babbles on endlessly about themselves? So, last week I asked people who follow me on Twitter a seemingly simple question: How do you define creativity?
Three Things You Can Do To Embrace Your Success
It’s the oddest feeling when something you’ve been working towards finally comes to fruition…It got me thinking about victories. So often on this website, freelancers talk about struggling to get clients, having problems completing projects or trying to make sure they get paid. Seldom do we talk about success. When success happens to us, sometimes we aren’t sure how to embrace it because we’ve been struggling for so long. Or we overlook our achievements. Many of us undermine the good things that happen in our lives. So it is vital to learn how to let the positive things really sink in and benefit us. Here are three tips to help you get the most out of your achievements!
I think that typos can be really inspiring when I see them in other people’s work. Here are some of the ways that you might think about being inspired the next time that you see a typo in someone’s work…
25 Paths to an Insanely Popular Blog
1. The social media runaway train. Perhaps the most sought after (and least frequently attained) route to a popular blog is rapid ‘growth from above’ resulting from huge traffic spikes, most frequently originating from Digg. This route was traveled by blogs like Zen Habits (did you know Zen Habits has been on the Digg front page more than 80 times?) and The Art of Manliness. Getting started on this path…
Perfectionism and Me: My Own Worst Enemy
I’m one of those freaks who obsesses over stupid shit. For example, getting the above picture to stay centered and not cause a text-break meltdown took a few days off my life. Does anyone but me care? Probably not. I obsess nonetheless. Perfectionism: a lovely quality to some, a deadly shortcoming for others.
March Writing Blog Madness Seedings
It’s time to announce the seedings for March Writing Blog Madness. There are four brackets with eight teams apiece. They are listed below in order of their matchups. I have also included a PDF showing them in their respective slots. I wish everyone luck…

April 1st, 2008 at 10:12 pmHello fellow Amy — and fellow rebel, apparently.
Thanks for linking to my post!
(I seriously love that you have a category called “Word Porn” LOL!!!!)
April 3rd, 2008 at 9:57 pmNo problem Amy! I did some research once. Not sure when you were born, but I was born in the year of Star Wars and Summer of Sam - 1977. IN that year and around there “Amy” was one of the most popular names in the country to name kids. Which explains why every class I attended throughout school had a least a couple Amys. A few years ago, I had a crew of great friends all named Amy. We were Amy cubed.
Anywho, thanks for visiting, and thanks for keeping up a wildly entertaining blog. And Word Porn always arrives on Fridays…
